Second Suspect Charged in Brussels Murder Case as Initial Suspect Cleared

The murder of the 36-year-old Moroccan Mounia in Evere has taken a new turn. A second suspect has been arrested and charged. The first one has been acquitted.
"The initial indications of guilt against this person are not confirmed by the investigation and there is no longer any reason to consider him a suspect," the Brussels public prosecutor’s office said, confirming information from RTL Info. The public prosecutor’s office is referring to Andy K., suspected of having slit the throat of Mounia, a 36-year-old Moroccan who was walking with her two-month-old baby on May 30. This suspect, who had been arrested and charged, has just been completely acquitted.
This acquittal is justified by evidence that exonerates Andy, a homeless person: no trace of blood on him at the time of his arrest a few hours after the victim’s death, his profile does not match the one described by the witnesses of the scene. Another piece of evidence: a "DNA analysis that showed that the traces of blood found on scissors in his possession were not those of the victim.
On Friday, the police arrested another man. According to the public prosecutor’s office, this suspect should be presented before the council chamber this Wednesday.
