Search Intensifies for Missing Woman After Bicycle Found Near Belgian River

The search carried out in Zemst, in Flemish Brabant, to find Imane Khraiss, a 25-year-old woman of Moroccan origin who fell into the Senne during the night from Saturday to Sunday, was interrupted on Thursday afternoon. The missing woman’s bicycle was found in the morning, but no body was discovered.
A new search operation was launched on Thursday in Zemst, Flemish Brabant, in the hope of finding Imane Khraiss, according to the emergency services cited by Belga. A mannequin used on Wednesday to reproduce the potential path taken by the victim’s body stopped at the level of the Zemst lock. It is therefore at this precise location that the federal police’s missing persons unit has focused its search on Thursday.
After the discovery of Imane’s bicycle on Thursday morning, divers concentrated their search in this area during the afternoon, without success.
A new test with a mannequin will be carried out next week. The police will continue to patrol the area in the meantime.
In the night from Saturday to Sunday, around 1 a.m., two witnesses saw a cyclist fall into the Senne while she was using the towpath in Eppegem (Zemst). The local police and firefighters then prospected the river. Their action lasted a good part of Sunday, without result. New search operations, carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday, also proved unsuccessful. They should therefore resume in the coming days.
