Scorching Sahara Surge: Morocco Braces for 46°C Heat Wave and Sandstorms

The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) of Morocco has issued an orange alert bulletin for this weekend, due to forecasts of high heat and strong winds in several provinces of the Kingdom.
In detail, Saturday will be marked by high temperatures, between 43 and 46 °C. The provinces concerned by this hot weather accompanied by the chergui are Tata, Zagora, Assa-Zag, Es-Smara, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab and Aousserd.
Furthermore, gusts of wind described as locally strong, with speeds of 70 to 80 km/h, are expected. This phenomenon, which will generate sand storms, will affect the provinces of Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab and Aousserd. The vigilance period for this event extends from Saturday 06:00 to Sunday at the same time.
This weather alert is part of the context of a recent "heat dome" episode that affected Morocco between June 27 and 30. The country then recorded temperatures well above seasonal norms, described as one of the hottest episodes in its recent history.
