Scandal at a French school in Morocco: a book with "sexually explicit passages

A heated controversy is raging at a French mission school in Rabat. Parents of students are denouncing the use of a poetry anthology in the school curriculum, claiming that the book contains sexually explicit and inappropriate passages for minors.

The case concerns 8th grade students (aged 14-15) who were assigned a collection titled "This Need to Love to Love", edited under the direction of André Velter. The book, presented as an anthology on love, would allegedly contain several "sexually explicit" passages according to the parents. Excerpts consulted by Médias24 would go "well beyond the erotic register", using "crude vocabulary", "violent imagery" and even mentioning relationships involving minors.

Alerted, the parents expressed their "indignation" to the school administration. In emails, they are demanding the immediate withdrawal of the anthology, an audit of all literary materials made available to students, as well as an explanatory meeting. Some parents are even considering taking legal action for exposing minors to sexually explicit content.

The school acknowledges "inappropriate content"

Faced with the controversy, the school administration has reacted by sending a message to the families concerned. In this communication, the administration acknowledges that a book "with inappropriate content" was indeed given to the students as part of the French class, confirming that it is the anthology in question.

The administration has asked families to "remove the book from their children’s reach" to prevent them from accessing it. It has committed to informing parents "of the follow-up to this regrettable situation" at the start of the new school year and to "repair this incident as best as possible".
