Saupiquet Tuna Maker to Close French Plant, Shift Production to Morocco and Spain

The Bolton Food group, owner of Saupiquet, has decided to close its plant in Quimper, Brittany and to set up in Morocco and Spain.
Saupiquet will relocate its production to Morocco and Spain as of 2025, after the closure of its plant in Quimper, which has been in operation for 25 years. The company specializing in the canning business, particularly tuna, has made this decision for economic reasons, explain employee representatives, citing the low profitability of the site due to inflation and rising raw material prices.
Over the past two years, the production of mackerel and sardines has halved, from 80 million to 43 million cans produced per year, they detail, expressing concerns about the fate of the 155 employees of the plant, even if support measures are planned. In any case, the closure of the Saupiquet plant in Quimper is a blow to the Breton agri-food industry and local employment.
