Saudi Arabia Backs Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara at UN

Before the 4th Committee of the United Nations Security Council, Saudi Arabia reiterated its full support for the territorial integrity of Morocco, stating that the Sahara issue will only find a solution through the autonomy proposal for the Saharan provinces.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdellah Benyahia Lamaalmi, reaffirmed on Monday, October 7, his country’s firm position and support for Morocco’s autonomy project for the Sahara.
The Ambassador added that Saudi Arabia "rejects any infringement on Morocco’s supreme interests and any violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity", alluding to the proposals of the Polisario Front and its allies.
According to the Saudi diplomat, the autonomy initiative is "a constructive choice aimed at a realistic and equitable solution", which guarantees the inhabitants of the southern provinces "their place and role without any distinction or discrimination, as well as an active participation in the social, economic and cultural development process of the Moroccan people".
