Saudi Arabia and US Respond to Algeria-Morocco Diplomatic Crisis

Algeria’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with Morocco continues to elicit reactions. After the Arab League, France, Israel, it is now the turn of Saudi Arabia and the United States to react.

In a statement, Saudi Arabia says it hopes for the return of relations between the two countries as soon as possible. In this sense, the kingdom has called on "the brothers in the two countries to uphold dialogue and diplomacy in order to reach solutions to points of contention, which could contribute to the opening of a new page in the relations between the two brotherly countries". Relations that should "return with a benefit for the peoples of the two countries, realize security and stability throughout the region and strengthen Arab cooperation", adds the same source.

The United States has also reacted to the breakdown of relations between Algeria and Morocco through an anonymous State Department official, reports the American channel Al Hurra. According to this official, the US government has taken note of the Algerian decision. However, it "is convinced that the improvement of relations will allow the two countries to better address regional and bilateral issues such as terrorism, illegal immigration, drug trafficking and trade relations".
