Salmonella Scare: Moroccan Company Recalls Modilac Baby Formula

A Moroccan company has just launched the withdrawal and recall of several infant milk references after a health alert following contamination by a bacterium.
According to the newspaper Assabah, the Moroccan group Maphar has just proceeded to the withdrawal of some of its products bearing the "Modilac" brand, mainly based on rice and likely to be contaminated by salmonella.
Last week, Modillac had announced in France the recall of some of its products manufactured in a factory in Spain. "Following the reporting of 4 cases of confirmed presence of Salmonella poona in the stools of infants who have consumed infant formula based on rice proteins under the Modilac, SODILAC brand, in agreement with the DGCCRF, has decided to recall: All rice protein-based formulas beyond the 2 lots concerned to date, As a precaution, all infant formulas manufactured at the factory concerned in Spain, pending the determination of the source of the problem," the company said in a statement.
"In order to avoid any risk of confusion, and to facilitate the management of the withdrawal/recall, we have decided to proceed with a broad recall, without distinction of batch, or date," the company specified.
The Moroccan authorities have not yet commented on this recall.
