Sahara: the Moroccan army strengthens its presence in the buffer zone

The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) would have begun to strengthen their presence in the buffer zone of the Moroccan Sahara, in the Aousserd region, about 260 kilometers from the city of Dakhla.
The FAR have launched sanitation and connection works for water and electricity networks along the northern border with Mauritania with a view to the construction of a new road section linking the two countries, local sources said, specifying that these works have started in the cities of Aousserd, Gueltat Zemmour and Agouinit.
This initiative by the FAR is part of the implementation of the royal initiative aimed at facilitating access to the Atlantic Ocean for the countries of the Sahel (Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali and Chad). The work was launched in the wake of the visit to General Belkhir El Farouk, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone based in Agadir, of a large delegation led by Alexander Ivanko, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of MINURSO.
