Ryanair drops Marrakech from Brussels Airport, but Charleroi still offers flights
Twenty routes cut, six aircraft withdrawn and 1.1 million fewer seats: Ryanair has confirmed a sweeping reduction to its Belgian schedule for winter 2026-2027. Travellers heading to Morocco are directly affected, but an alternative remains available.

Marrakech is disappearing from Ryanair’s winter schedule at Brussels Airport. From November, the Irish airline will serve just one destination from the airport: Dublin. Travellers used to flying to the ochre city from Brussels Airport will therefore have to look for another departure point.

About 60 kilometres away, Charleroi continues to offer direct flights to Marrakech. The route is still listed on Ryanair’s booking site, with tickets on sale for November, December and January. The schedule runs through March 2027.
The difference between the two airports is clear in the latest cuts announced on Tuesday, 20 October, by Ryanair chief Michael O’Leary. According to the Belga news agency, in a report carried by Télésambre, seven destinations are being dropped from Zaventem, compared with 13 from Charleroi, where 75 routes are being maintained.
An aviation tax behind the cuts
Ryanair is withdrawing six aircraft from Belgium and cutting 1.1 million seats in total. In its official statement, the airline attributes the cuts to an increase in the federal tax on airline tickets.
Currently set at 5 euros, the tax will rise to 7 euros on 1 January 2027. Ryanair denounces a cumulative increase of 250% since January 2025, when the tax stood at 2 euros.
The airline had already announced the withdrawal of five aircraft from Charleroi over the summer. The new schedule now confirms the removal of Marrakech from Zaventem, first mentioned in June, and brings the number of aircraft withdrawn from Belgium to six.
For Moroccans in Belgium, Charleroi therefore remains an option for reaching Marrakech this winter. The schedule currently displayed provides for about nine direct flights a week on the route, through 27 March 2027.
