Russia’s Rosatom to Invest in Moroccan Seawater Desalination Projects

Morocco’s participation in the second Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum in St. Petersburg was beneficial. A Russian giant has decided to invest in seawater desalination, one of the priorities of the government of Aziz Akhannouch.
On the sidelines of the Russia-Africa summit, Water and Energy Solutions and Rusatom Smart Utilities, a subsidiary of the Russian giant Rosatom active in the energy, housing and public services sectors, signed a memorandum of understanding. The two parties plan to cooperate in the implementation of desalination, conditioning and water purification projects. "This agreement aims to expand cooperation with Morocco, particularly in the field of desalination and water conditioning, and provides for the possibility of implementing joint projects with the application of Rosatom’s technologies aimed at providing green water to the production sector and the population of the region," said Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General for Development and International Business of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, in a statement.
Mohammed Amine Cherkaoui, representative of Water and Energy Solutions, a Moroccan company specializing in desalination solutions and technologies, welcomed this fine initiative, which is a concrete example of a "relationship of trust in a changing world". "The fact that Rosatom has decided to work with the kingdom is an excellent proof that we can develop together by helping each other to provide affordable green water," he said.
