Royal Air Maroc Ticket Prices Spark Outrage Among Moroccan Expats

Salwa Demnati, a socialist (opposition) deputy, denounced the rise in Royal Air Maroc ticket prices for Moroccans living abroad who wish to spend their summer holidays in Morocco, accusing the company of charging high prices while it benefits from annual subsidies from the State.
Demnati criticized Royal Air Maroc’s pricing policy, which does not make life easier for Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) wishing to spend their summer holidays in Morocco. The MP gave the example of Moroccans in Canada who have to pay more than 2,000 Canadian dollars for a plane ticket to Morocco. "How do you expect these people to come to their country and boost tourism?" she asked.
Moroccans living abroad contribute significantly to the development of the kingdom. Remittances from MREs reached more than 100 billion dirhams in 2023, recalled the deputy of the socialist group, deploring the fact that Royal Air Maroc does not operate any price and service changes in favor of MREs and its customers in general, while it benefits from annual financial support from the State. Last year, the airline received 4 billion dirhams in public subsidies, the parliamentarian added.
"Have pity on this category, Mr. Minister, we have been asking the same question for years, but without any response or positive change, whether in maritime or air transport," Demnati said to the Minister of Transport and Logistics, calling for measures to reduce plane and boat ticket prices for MREs wishing to spend their summer holidays in Morocco.
