Royal Air Maroc ordered to pay €1,250 after passengers arrive in Agadir more than three hours late
Two passengers who arrived in Agadir more than three hours late won their case against Royal Air Maroc. The airline must pay them €800 in compensation and €450 toward their legal costs.
The passengers had booked a Lyon–Agadir journey via Casablanca on flights AT721 and AT341, with arrival scheduled for January 29, 2025, at 11:55 p.m. They ultimately reached their destination more than three hours late, according to the ruling issued on September 2, 2026, by the Villeurbanne local court.
The court, which was seized in July 2025, had to consider their claim for €400 per person under the European regulation on air passenger rights. The passengers also sought €600 for abusive resistance and €2,000 for their legal costs.

Royal Air Maroc acknowledged receipt of its summons but neither appeared nor was represented at the hearing. Its absence did not relieve the judge of the duty to examine the passengers’ claims.
No extraordinary circumstances established
The passengers submitted their confirmed booking. The airline, for its part, demonstrated neither that the delay was less than three hours nor that an extraordinary circumstance could exempt it from liability. For this 2,124-kilometer journey, the court awarded €400 per passenger in compensation.
Royal Air Maroc was therefore ordered to pay €800 in compensation and €450 in legal costs, totaling €1,250, plus court costs.
The court, however, rejected the €600 claim for abusive resistance, finding that the airline’s malice or bad faith had not been sufficiently established.
