Royal Air Maroc and American Airlines Seek Code-Sharing Approval, Expanding Travel Options

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and American Airlines have just filed an application for authorization with the U.S. Department of Transportation to share their codes.
According to Air journal, the two companies already have an interline agreement and want to take an additional step in order to offer their customers "additional options to reach more destinations". Royal Air Maroc will formally join the Oneworld alliance in the first quarter of 2020.
But, in the meantime, it already serves the airports of New York-JFK, Washington-Dulles, Miami and, since last June, Boston-Logan. American Airlines, for its part, is due to launch a new seasonal route between Philadelphia and Casablanca in June 2020, its first to Africa.
However, there are not only air links as advantages of the authorization request. According to the website, there are also "potential future codeshare markets" such as Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, Bamako in Mali and Cotonou in Benin.
American Airlines is delighted with its upcoming collaboration with the Moroccan airline, which already has agreements with JetBlue and WestJet in North America. American Airlines offers 8 African destinations via British Airways and Iberia.
