Rouen Baker Offers Free Breakfast to Frontline Workers Amid COVID-19 Crisis

While France is facing an unprecedented epidemic wave, gestures of solidarity are multiplying to bring a little comfort to the rescue teams.
This is the case, for example, of Mohamed Bais, a MRE artisan baker in Rouen, who had the idea of offering breakfast to healthcare personnel, firefighters, law enforcement and the military, during this coronavirus pandemic period.
"All night long, I heard the SAMU (emergency medical service) passing by. A few hours earlier, I had listened to the President of the Republic during his address and I then wondered how I could help those who are facing the epidemic," he explained.
Launched on March 17, the initiative has found a favorable echo among dozens of people who have benefited from the freely offered menu, and who have especially appreciated the baker’s gesture of attention.
Arrived clandestinely in France in 2007, Mohamed Bais had his situation regularized 10 years later, in 2016. Thanks to his savings, he acquired a bakery in the center of Rouen.
