Roman Military Tower Unearthed Near Ancient Volubilis Site in Morocco

Moroccan and Polish archaeologists led by Professor Radosław Karasiewicz-Szczypiorski of the University of Warsaw have discovered a Roman military tower near Volubilis.
The work on the site began in 2021 as part of a cooperation agreement between the University of Warsaw and the Institute of Archeology and Cultural Heritage (INSAP) in Rabat. According to the Polish ambassador to Morocco, Krzysztof Karwowski, this team of archaeologists is accomplishing a colossal work on site. This is the case of this Roman army observation tower they discovered near the archaeological site of Volubilis. It is an infrastructure built on the southern border of the Roman province.
This discovery provides important and useful elements for the reconstruction of the history of Mauretania Tingitana, which had seven colonies, namely Zilis, Babba, Banasa, Tingis, Lixus, Rusadir and Volubilis, the ambassador pointed out, noting that many teams had worked in the past, but they had not succeeded in making such an important discovery.
"The foundations of the Roman defense tower are a magnificent testimony to the Roman defense system around Volubilis. This is thanks to the excellent cooperation between Polish and Moroccan archaeologists. We look forward to their new discoveries," he said.
