La Rochelle Mosque Offers Ramadan Drive-Through Meals During Lockdown

The Islamic Cultural Association of Charente-Maritime (ACICM) offers hot meals every evening to fasting people in need in front of the mosque in Mireuil (La Rochelle) via a Ramadan drive-through. This social action will continue throughout the month of fasting.
The month of Ramadan "is a month of fasting and prayer for the Muslims of our city, but in this period of confinement, the mosque of Mireuil as well as the prayer room of Clos-Margat (in Petit-Marseille) will be closed for all prayers, including the night prayers (Tarawih), very followed by Muslims normally," said the general secretary of the Islamic Cultural Association of Charente-Maritime (ACICM), Abdelouahed Tatou to SudOuest.
This month "is also a time of sharing, especially in this difficult period where more people and families need help," he says. Faced with the impossibility of offering the traditional collective meal due to covid-19, the association organizes the distribution of hot meals every evening during the month of Ramadan.
"Intended for all the fasters of the month of Ramadan who are in need (foreign students, single people, modest families...)," this distribution is done in the form of a Ramadan drive-through, in La Rochelle, in front of the Mireuil mosque.
The association requires beneficiaries to come to the Mireuil site, with their exit permits. They are also called upon to respect the health guidelines in force (health masks, social distancing...).
