RMC Fires Commentator Mehdi Ghezzar Over Controversial Morocco Remarks
Fired from RMC on Wednesday for his infamous remarks about Morocco, Mehdi Ghezzar breaks his silence. In a short video, the Algerian commentator apologized to the Moroccan people, assuring them that he has "no hatred" towards them, swearing that his remarks were manipulated. And yet!
The management of RMC decided to dismiss Mehdi Ghezzar from the "Les Grandes gueules" program in which he participated as a commentator, following the strong controversy caused by his remarks about Morocco, made on an Al24 News channel program broadcast on August 25.
In a video of about three and a half minutes shared on social networks, Mehdi Ghezzar apologized to the Moroccan people for his remarks. "I want to apologize to the Moroccan people. If my words have hurt you, have saddened you or have wounded you, I am truly sorry because that is not at all my goal. I was not talking about you at all," he declared.
The Algerian commentator explained that he was only doing his job and "commenting on a policy that is currently being pursued". He reiterated that his intention was never to attack the Moroccan people, "a brotherly people" towards whom he claims to have "no hatred". "I will always be by their side because it is a people made up of men and women like us, of the same faith, the same traditions and the same customs," he insisted in his video.
Mehdi Ghezzar also claimed that his remarks made on Al24 News were distorted. "We know where it comes from, we know why and we know for what purpose," he indicated, specifying that he chose to make a video to avoid any further manipulation of his words.
