Rising Costs of Private Education in Morocco Strain Parents’ Budgets

If there is one practice that is taking root over time in Morocco, it is the continuous increase in tuition fees, registration fees and even insurance in private schools. All this is happening in the face of the Ministry of National Education, which, visibly, shows a disconcerting laxity.
In the absence of a performing education system, many parents turn to private educational institutions. According to the daily Al Massae, this choice is paved with pitfalls as schools set registration fees and even insurance fees that see a substantial increase every year. The most remarkable case concerns insurance fees, indicates the same source.
Establishments demand sums of money ranging from 1000 to 3000 dirhams, while it is known to all that the insurance premium is between 20 and 100 dirhams per student, specifies the same source.
However, there are circulars from the Ministry of National Education that regulate the sector, in particular, the provisions relating to insurance and registration and tuition fees. But it must be admitted that some private educational institutions trample on the texts drawn up in this direction, the newspaper gets angry.
Everything suggests that the Ministry of National Education lacks firmness. It is imperative that it play the role that is its own, in order to clean up the sector, supports Al Massae.
