Reports of New Morocco-Mauritania Border Post Unconfirmed

The information disseminated in recent days by certain media, including Bladi.net, reporting on the construction by Morocco of a road connecting the city of Es-smara, in the Sahara, to Mauritania, with a view to opening a new border post in the Amgala region, are not verified.
These rumors announce the imminent completion of a 53-kilometer road construction project connecting Es-smara to Mauritania, via Amgala. This is not the case, says a local source to Barlamane.
"No infrastructure of this type is under construction in this area. No project to establish a new border crossing with Mauritania is on the agenda," the source denied.
The distance between the city of Es-smara, in the heart of the Moroccan Sahara, and the border with Mauritania is several hundred kilometers. The isolated region of Amgala is located in the southeast of the kingdom, near the desert border areas, it is specified.
