Report: Sexual Assaults Against Moroccan Children Rise Sharply, Top Crime Category

Sexual assaults occupy the first place in the ranking of crimes committed against Moroccan children. This is the result of the latest report from the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The report indicates that 2,800 cases of sexual assault, the majority with violence, have been committed against Moroccan children. The number of cases handled was 7,263 in 2018 compared to 5,980 in 2017. In 2018, 536 rapes of minor girls and 1,756 indecent assaults with violence against 1,422 girls and 334 boys were recorded. The total number of indecent assaults without violence is around 523 cases against 345 girls and 178 boys.
There are 309 kidnapping crimes against 275 girls and 34 boys. The number of child victims of human trafficking is 38, including 23 girls. One girl and 8 boys were exploited in drug trafficking. The number of attacks on the physical integrity of children amounts to 1,454 cases, of which 478 exceeded an incapacity period of 20 days. Result: the total number of crimes against children stands at 7,031 cases, 66.6% against girls and 33.6% against boys.
