Report: Morocco Used Pegasus Spyware to Uncover Polisario Leader’s Secret Spain Visit

"The trip from Algeria to Spain of President Brahim Ghali and his admission under a false identity to a hospital in Logroño accompanied by Salem Labsir would have been discovered thanks to the Israeli spyware Pegasus," say Sahrawi media. "The leader of the Polisario Front was transferred in an official Algerian government plane to an airport in Zaragoza to then be admitted to the San Pedro de Logroño hospital after contracting the coronavirus," these media recall, without proof, that Morocco had the information thanks to the Pegasus spyware.

"Today, in light of this [Pegasus] affair, it is more than likely that the information actually came from a phone belonging to one of Brahim Ghali’s henchmen and that was infected by Pegasus," they argue, adding that the operation was made possible thanks to the infiltration of the Polisario Front by an agent of the Directorate General of Studies and Documentation (DGED), the Moroccan counterintelligence agency led by the king’s childhood friend, Yassine Mansouri.

According to the press close to the Polisario, "all the phones of Sahrawi officials and Polisario Front leaders have been spied on using the Israeli Pegasus software. From senior officials to division heads or Sahrawi civil society representatives and journalists, not to mention the entire SADR (Sahrawi Intelligence) security and documentation apparatus and the Sahrawi diplomatic corps, have also been spied on."

Ghali’s arrival in Spain, revealed by the media Jeune Afrique and La Razón, and his admission to the San Pedro de Logroño hospital under a false identity have caused a serious diplomatic crisis with Morocco. Spain is working to quickly resume cooperation with the kingdom.
