Renowned Moroccan Singer and Actor Mohamed El-Ghaoui Dies at 80

Morocco has just lost one of its greatest singers. Mohamed El-Ghaoui died on Saturday in Rabat following complications from a cerebral hemorrhage, his family announced.
Mohamed El-Ghaoui was a great voice of song in Morocco with a repertoire rich in nearly 80 songs "with melodies drawn from Moroccan folklore rhythms". He participated in many epics, including the three-part one written by the artist Mohamed Hassan Al-Joundy and presented at the Cairo Opera (Malhamat al-Ahd).
The singer was also known for his acting roles in the series "Radia", "La vie continue" and "Aswat Al-Madina". But he did not survive the complications related to a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 67 years old.
Born in Salé in 1956, Mohamed El-Ghaoui was a laureate of the Mawahib (Talents) school. Adopted son of the late Abdenbi El-Jirari, he had joined the Ajyal group and made his debut with the song "Lghorba o Lâachq Lgadi".
