Remote Moroccan Village Charges for King’s Free Food Aid, Sparking Controversy

Families living in the remote village of Tisrawline, near Imilchil, were forced to pay 15 dirhams in order to receive the food basket offered free of charge by King Mohammed VI.
Organized by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the humanitarian action, whose objective is to provide comfort and support to vulnerable people and families in precarious situations, was this year marred by irregularities in the distribution chain.
According to the site Alyaoum24, in order to be entitled to the food basket, some families in the village of Tisrawline were forced to pay the sum of 15 dirhams.
Unable to pay this sum, many households, deprived of food aid, have appealed to the National Commission for the Monitoring of Offenses. Despite the intervention of a mission officer, no action seems to be planned to determine the responsibilities.
On royal instructions, 600,000 underprivileged families, including 459,000 from the rural world, are to benefit from a basket of 7 essential products, as part of the Ramadan 1441 food distribution operation.
