Record 2.84 Million Moroccans Abroad Return Home in Summer 2023 Operation

The "Marhaba 2023" operation, aimed at facilitating the passage of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE), recorded a record flow this year, with nearly 2.84 million passengers and 642,000 vehicles transiting through Moroccan ports between June 5 and September 15.

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, reported during a meeting in Rabat a significant increase in arrivals, observing "a 23% increase for passengers and 20% for vehicles" compared to last year.

To meet this growing demand, the ministry says it has spared no effort, with the provision of 32 ships from 9 different companies. These ships, connecting Morocco to Spain, France and Italy, have made no less than 538 weekly trips, with a maximum weekly capacity of "500,000 passengers and 136,000 vehicles", according to the details provided by Mr. Abdeljalil.

The successes of "Marhaba 2023" are also the result of a series of proactive measures undertaken by the ministry. Abdeljalil listed the key initiatives, including a structured fleet plan, an increase in transit supply, and the strengthening of security measures in accordance with national and international maritime standards. These efforts extended to monitoring tariffs and facilitating advance bookings, thus ensuring a smooth experience even during peak hours.

Cooperating closely with various authorities, the ministry claims to have played a central role in ensuring the optimal implementation of this large-scale operation. "This process is done in cooperation with the various authorities concerned, especially since this operation is experiencing a significant influx of travelers in a short period of time," the minister stressed, highlighting the importance of this synergy, particularly with port authorities and shipping companies, for the success of "Marhaba 2023".
