Record 3 Million Moroccan Expatriates Expected to Return for Summer Homecoming

This year, the Marhaba 2023 operation dedicated to welcoming Moroccans residing abroad coincides with Eid Al Adha, giving even more meaning to the reunions. In total, some 3 million MREs are expected to return to Morocco this summer.
Launched on June 5 and running until September 15, this operation aims to welcome MREs in the best possible conditions. To this end, the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca has mobilized all its human and logistical resources. According to Abdelhamid Sanhajir, project manager of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, interviewed by the Map, the foundation is actively working to support the MREs, in coordination with travel agencies and airport services.
With the approach of Eid Al Adha, the Foundation’s activity has been strengthened to provide increased assistance to MREs, especially those returning only for the duration of the holiday. In parallel, Abdelhak Mazour, Director of Mohammed V Airport, stated that the implementation of several devices for this period was aimed at ensuring a smooth passage for all passengers.
Practically speaking, Mr. Mazour specified that the airport has launched work to increase its reception capacity, facilitate formalities and improve baggage handling, with the commissioning of three new baggage belts. These developments come in anticipation of the departure phase which will begin on August 1, still in close collaboration with the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
The Marhaba 2023 operation, which started on June 5 under the supervision of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, has been welcomed favorably by the MREs, the same source indicates. They expressed their satisfaction with the good reception conditions at the airport, rejoicing at the prospect of reuniting with their families and loved ones on the occasion of Eid Al Adha. The operation aims to support the growing flows of MREs during the summer, by putting in place social and medical assistance services. Nearly 1,400 people have been mobilized for this operation.
