Real Estate Fraud Scandal Rocks Tétouan: Officials and Notaries Implicated

In Tétouan, the real estate mafia reigns supreme, denounces the Human Rights Observatory, which calls for an end to the impunity of those responsible who expropriate state property and the property of others.
The Observatory calls on the competent authorities to initiate legal proceedings against the perpetrators of real estate fraud in the city of Tétouan in order to put an end to this phenomenon, which is taking on alarming proportions. In a statement, it condemns the dismissal of its complaint filed with the public prosecutor’s office in the city to denounce, with supporting evidence, the illegal expropriation of state property in which elected officials, notaries and public officials are involved.
The latter are said to have falsified official documents to achieve their ends, denounces the NGO. But the public prosecutor’s office in Tétouan considered the evidence accompanying the complaint insufficient to initiate proceedings against the officials involved, accused of having violated the right to property, considered one of the fundamental rights enshrined in international human rights conventions and national laws. Dissatisfied with this decision of the Tétouan public prosecutor’s office, the Observatory has seized the Rabat public prosecutor’s office and called for more firmness in the fight against the real estate mafia in the region.
