Rare 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Coupé, Once Owned by Moroccan King, Heads to Auction

In a few weeks, a 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Coupé Speciale, a former possession of King Mohammed V, will find a new owner at an auction organized by RM Sotheby’s.
This car is unique: it is the ultimate model among the four coupés with Pininfarina-style Superamerica bodywork, and one of the three specimens produced without ventilation grilles on the fenders. Despite its charm, this automotive jewel requires significant and time-consuming restoration.
This racing car was born in May 1956 with chassis number 0469 GT. It is distinguished by its two-tone Celeste bodywork topped by a Nero roof, all dressed in Connolly Naturale leather interior. The first to sit behind the wheel of this exceptional vehicle was King Mohammed V, a connoisseur of luxury and automotive performance.
The history of this vehicle still holds some mysteries. It is not certain that King Mohammed V was the sole owner of this Ferrari 250 GT Coupé Spéciale. But the presence of a period Moroccan license plate attests to a link with the kingdom.
In the early 1960s, this racing car crossed the Atlantic to reach the United States. In 1962, the car was registered in the name of Ben Pace, in Florida. The latter sold it twelve years later to Walter Medlin who, for half a century, was the owner. Unfortunately, the car has not been pampered as it deserves: traces of rust are visible on certain parts of its bodywork. August 17th will mark a new beginning for this Ferrari which, despite its need for restoration, will undoubtedly attract many enthusiasts at the auction in Monterey, California.
