Ramadan 2024 in France: Morocco loses control over the religious supervision of Moroccans living abroad
As the month of Ramadan approaches, voices are being raised to demand religious training adapted to Moroccans residing abroad, particularly in France.
The president of the PJD parliamentary group, Abdellah Bouanou, wrote to the Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, to emphasize the importance of this issue.
Mr. Bouanou stressed the need for religious supervision in line with the Moroccan model, based on moderation, balance, coexistence, openness and tolerance. He also warned against the dangers of extremist currents and called for protecting Moroccans from these harmful influences.
The situation in France is particularly urgent. The country has implemented a new immigration law and has decided to no longer call on foreign imams. This decision is likely to affect the some 900,000 Moroccans living in France, who could find themselves without adequate religious supervision, he said.
The official called on the minister to take concrete measures to meet the needs of Moroccans residing abroad and guarantee them access to quality religious training, in line with Morocco’s values.
