Ramadan 2020 Begins April 25 in Morocco Amid COVID-19 Restrictions

The Ramadan 2020 fast will take place in confinement, far from mosques and family gatherings. While the practice of fasting will not be affected by the current context, the rituals of prayer and consumption will be largely impacted.

According to the calculations of the Palestinian Astronomical Association, the first day of the month of Ramadan 2020, corresponding to the year 1441 of the Hegira, will be on Saturday, April 25 in Morocco.

Hardly perceptible to the telescope on Thursday, April 23, the crescent moon will consequently be clearly visible the next day, Friday, April 24, in most other Arab countries.

In France, the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) mentions the possibility for imams to transmit messages and interventions online, in order to allow the faithful to maintain the link with the mosques. Will it be the same in Morocco?

One thing is certain, Ramadan will be experienced differently this year. In this period of confinement, the Muslim community around the world will have to cope with the restrictions on movement and gathering related to covid-19.
