Rabies Case Confirmed in Paris: Dog from Morocco Bites Several Before Death

The health authorities in the Paris region have diagnosed rabies in a dog from Morocco. The animal showed symptoms of the disease before its death.
The 4-year-old dog was placed in a shelter in Évry-Courcouronnes, according to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, specifying that the animal developed the first signs on October 19 and died on October 25. The final results obtained on October 27 confirm that it had rabies.
Before its death, the animal had bitten several people who were then quickly taken care of by the anti-rabies center of the Pasteur Institute. They were given a very effective post-exposure prophylactic treatment, the government specifies.
According to the ongoing investigation, this dog could have been illegally imported from Morocco. The shelter is currently closed and access is prohibited to unauthorized persons.
