Rabat Zoo Opens New Vivarium Showcasing African Reptile Species

Good news for nature and animal lovers. The Rabat zoo has been hosting a vivarium since Friday, November 8.
Covering an area of about 1700 m², the vivarium houses more than 150 animals representing about 40 species of reptiles, including 13 species of snakes, 21 species of lizards, 9 species of turtles and 3 species of amphibians. Installed on 6 zones, this vivarium reproduces the African ecosystems: Moroccan, subtropical, afro-alpine, south-Saharan, equatorial and Malagasy.
This modern ecological initiative, which is designed according to international standards, emphasizes the richness of African biodiversity. This vivarium allows visitors to explore the representations of the different geographical areas of the African continent, in the context of an educational and fun visit, by immersing the visitor in the world of reptiles, through a journey from Morocco to Madagascar.
The developed concept respects the principle of immersion and geographical presentation of the main ecosystems of Africa, in harmony with the general concept of the Rabat Zoological Garden.
The other objective of this vivarium, beyond its role in the conservation of reptile species, is the dissemination of knowledge about the richness of the biodiversity of Morocco and the African continent in terms of reptiles, and raising public awareness of the need to preserve animal species, particularly those threatened with extinction.
