Rabat-Salé Airport: the new terminal nearing completion

The modernization of the Rabat-Salé international airport marks a decisive step in the development of the capital’s infrastructure. This large-scale project, a cornerstone of the "Rabat, City of Light" program, will quadruple the annual reception capacity of the platform, from 1.5 million to 4 million passengers.

The heart of this transformation lies in a new 69,000 m² terminal building spread over several floors. The infrastructure incorporates state-of-the-art facilities: six telescopic boarding bridges, "walk-through" commercial spaces, as well as advanced digital systems for flight and security management. In addition, the aircraft parking area has been expanded by six new positions, while a two-level car park with 1,300 spaces has been built.

A strategic hub finalized despite technical delays

This project, financed by ONDA with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the French Development Agency (AFD), is part of the national strategy for the 2025 CAN and the 2030 World Cup. The objective is to strengthen Morocco’s position as a major logistics hub in North Africa while boosting regional economic and tourism activity.

However, the delivery of the project has experienced significant delays. Initially scheduled for July 2022, the inauguration was postponed following the withdrawal of the Chinese company SINOHYDRO from the construction consortium, after an internal conflict. The completion of the work in the coming weeks puts an end to this complex file, now offering travelers comfort services to international standards.
