Rabat Police Shoot Aggressive Dog During Drug Suspect’s Arrest

A brigadier serving in the anti-gang brigade of the Rabat police prefecture was forced to use his weapon to neutralize an aggressive breed of dog on Monday, June 29, 2020. Its owner, an individual with multiple criminal records for drug and psychotropic trafficking, incited the animal to attack the police during his arrest.
A police patrol had intervened to apprehend the suspect, who was the subject of two national arrest warrants, the first for involvement in drug trafficking and the second for the execution of a court judgment pronounced against him, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.
The accused incited the dog to attack the police officers, thus endangering their safety, the DGSN specifies. Faced with this situation, a member of the patrol was forced to use his service weapon and fire two shots that fatally struck the dog, which also allowed the suspect to be arrested and the danger he represented to be neutralized, the same source adds.
Pending the determination of all the criminal acts with which he is charged, the defendant was taken into custody.
