Rabat’s Overcrowded Trams Frustrate Tourists and Locals Amid Summer Surge

While Rabat and Salé are experiencing an unprecedented influx of tourists during the summer holidays, the tramway, an ideal solution for getting around, is showing its limits, causing discontent among residents and visitors.
It is not easy to get around Rabat and Salé by tramway during this summer period. And for good reason, the waiting time for the means of transport has reached 20 minutes on weekends and public holidays, compared to 10 to 15 minutes on weekdays, encroaching on the passage every 6 minutes, as provided for in the specifications, reports the site Al3omk. As a result, there is severe congestion at the stations and long queues of impatient users. Some of them frequently insult each other in the tramway lines due to overcrowding in the cars, while others suffer harassment.
In addition to severe congestion and frequent delays, many passengers face another major difficulty, that of buying tramway tickets when the ticket offices are closed, and also online. The operation of the tramway also proves to be inefficient. The tramway network operates from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, with a one-hour extension on Saturdays and Sundays, which seems insufficient to meet the needs, as the streets remain congested even after midnight. Many citizens are then forced to wait in long queues at taxi stops in general chaos.
