Rabat Hospital Denies Newborn Mix-Up Allegations Amid Controversy

Accused by the Moroccan Network for the Defense of the Right to Health of having been confused when handing over a newborn to its mother, the Rabat Children’s Hospital has provided a formal denial.
It is in a press release that the Souissi Hospital brushed aside the accusations made against its services and which were widely reported by the Arabic-language press.
Indeed, it is accused of having handed over to a mother a newborn who was not hers. The facts were highlighted in a press release from the Moroccan Network for the Defense of the Right to Health.
The Network specified that the "scandal broke out when the mother discovered that the remains of the umbilical cord were still in place and had not fallen off, while she was convinced that her newborn no longer had any".
The mother "protested vehemently", which led to "the return of three mothers who had left the hospital accompanied by their babies for tests".
The three newborns were "admitted pending the fall of the remains of their umbilical cords". But the Rabat Children’s Hospital assures that it has neither contacted nor recalled any patients who had just left the maternity ward for any examination or diagnosis whatsoever.
