Rabat-Ville Station Renovation Resumes: Modernization for High-Speed Rail and UNESCO Compliance

Renovation work on the Rabat-Ville station has resumed after a long period of suspension. It has been entrusted to the firm of architect Youssef Melehi, who designed the Rabat-Agdal and Marrakech stations, replacing the AWM firm.
The Youssef Melehi firm has been selected to carry out the renovation work on the Rabat-Ville station, after the AWM firm failed to respect the aesthetic codes and UNESCO recommendations. The Youssef Melehi firm has therefore committed to meeting a number of requirements allowing the construction of glass walls and roofs in order to give the building "a both heritage and contemporary touch, marking the link between the past and the present".
The firm also plans to implement an eco-responsible thermal regulation system. This involves the integration of green spaces inside the station to create a natural ventilation system, as is the case in the Arribat Center shopping mall in the Agdal district. Youssef Melehi also plans to pay particular attention to the Almohad wall, which he will strive to highlight by reducing the size of the building. As for the rear facade of the station, it will be covered with planted bleachers.
According to the firm’s forecasts, the work, amounting to 250 million dirhams, should be completed and the station operational in 2025 to accommodate the high-speed train (TGV).
