Rabat’s Historic Mohammed V Avenue Undergoes $25 Million Renovation

After the completion of the first phase taking into account Boulevard Hassan 2 and the post office at the end of 2020, the second phase of the redevelopment work on Mohammed V Avenue has started. This operation concerns the post office and the Assouna mosque.
Giving a new look to the heritage of the facades of Mohammed V Avenue is the main goal of this major development operation. The start of the work is part of an off-program convention Rabat ville lumière with an overall budget of 250 million dirhams, reports L’Économiste. 30 million dirhams will be used for the heritage enhancement of the building facades. Another 30 million dirhams will be used for the realization of the development work on the roads, squares and green spaces in this area.
26 million dirhams will be used to redo the public lighting, while the cost of the relocation of the networks is around 14 million dirhams. The remaining 150 million dirhams will be used for the construction of two underground car parks with 885 spaces, in order to facilitate parking and make mobility and movement more flexible in this high-traffic area, according to a source close to the file.
In addition, a call for tenders has been launched on the one hand for the design, study, construction, equipment, development and delegated management of these two car parks, and on the other hand for the delegated management of the underground car park of Bab El Had (500 spaces) whose work was completed in November 2020. Other construction sites are also underway in this area. We can mention, among others, the development project of the headquarters of the Foundation for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat. For this project, a colonial villa located in the city center not far from Bank Al-Maghrib is currently being redeveloped.
