Rabat Expands Major Avenue, Expropriating Land from Foreign Embassies and Officials

An important development and widening project of Mohammed VI Avenue in Rabat is underway. To this end, the city hall has announced the expropriation of several plots of land located in the Youssoufia and Souissi districts. This project concerns private properties and land belonging to foreign states.
The plan provides for the recovery of parcels held by several countries: the United Arab Emirates (201 m²), the Netherlands (555 m²), Poland (739 m²), Saudi Arabia (660 m²), Russia (553 m²), Qatar (807 m²), Iran (752 m²) and the United States (2,816 m²), reports Maghreb Intelligence.
Personalities, particularly from the Gulf, are also affected by these expropriations. The names of these personalities have not been communicated.
Several Moroccan senior officials, past and present, are also affected. Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, Director General of the DGED, must cede 351 m². Former Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi and former Minister Karim Ghellab are concerned for a plot of 1,392 m². The heirs of Mahjoubi Aherdane (202 m²) and the Archane family (Mahmoud and his son Abdessamad for 1,625 m²) are also included in the project. Finally, Karima Benyaich, Moroccan ambassador to Spain, will have to cede 800 m².
