Rabat Budget Crisis: Wilaya Steps In as City Council Deadlock Continues

The Rabat city council, with a PJD majority, was unable to provide the city with a budget for 2020. The cause is internal conflicts between members of the office and some opposition councilors, in particular from the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM).
Faced with the inability of the city council, the wilaya will have to take action to adopt the Rabat budget, taking into account the 2019 budget forecasts, reports Hespress.
Since 2015, this is the second time that this budget will be prepared by the services of the Ministry of the Interior at the level of the wilaya. This is a procedure provided for by law, notes the same source. As a result, the members of the city council, particularly those of the opposition, will not be informed of the budget details.
The reasons underlying the absence of the 2020 Rabat budget are of several orders. The municipality no longer has a director in charge of these services, after the retirement a month ago of the civil servant who was carrying out this mission.
A source from the majority confides: "Rabat was supposed to be a model of local management. But today, the city is going through its darkest days. It has not held an ordinary session with a properly prepared agenda for a long time, with anarchy and empty political conflicts becoming the norm."
