Rabat: Amphibious buses on the Bouregreg
Rabat is preparing to launch a new and unprecedented tourist attraction in Morocco. The capital will be equipped with amphibious tourist buses to offer an experience combining a land route and navigation on the Bouregreg River, thus connecting the sites on both banks.
This project is part of the development strategy "Rabat, City of Lights, Cultural Capital of Morocco". It is endowed with an investment of more than 23 million dirhams for the acquisition of two buses. The objective is to strengthen the city’s tourist offer by proposing an innovative mode of transport. Visitors will be able to discover the main sites on both banks, including the Kasbah of the Oudayas, the Hassan Tower, the Marina and the neighborhoods of the medina of Salé. According to the daily newspaper Assahra Al Maghribia, this initiative is also seen as a lever for the local economy, through job creation.
A "pioneering" project for sustainable tourism
The project is hailed by urban development experts. For Dr. Oumaima Oukhoyy, a researcher in territorial development, it represents a "major advance in the urban vision of Rabat". She believes that these shuttles are not just an attraction, but a real tool for cultural and economic promotion.
According to the researcher, this project could position Morocco as a "pioneering country in terms of sustainable tourism innovation". She concludes that this interactive mode of transport paves the way for a new way of integrating cultural discovery and landscape aesthetics, while respecting the objectives of sustainable development and environmental protection.
