Qatargate Suspect Claims Moroccan Threats, Describes Prison Ordeal

Former parliamentary assistant and husband of Greek MEP Eva Kaili, Francesco Giorgi was arrested on December 9, 2022 and detained in Brussels for two and a half months, as part of the so-called Qatargate affair. He claims to be threatened by Morocco.
SudInfo has just revealed his hearing with the investigators, where he recalls having been incarcerated in the same prison as the former deputy Panzeri. An administrative error even led to their cohabitation in a cell for a few days.
In his deposition, Giorgi describes this forced cohabitation with Panzeri as a form of torture, specifying that he was initially placed with a Chilean detainee, before being transferred to wing A of the prison, for his safety.
The focus is particularly on Morocco in Giorgi’s testimony. He expresses his fear of a possible escape to Morocco or Qatar, considering these countries as potential threats to his life and that of his family, notably because of the impact of the scandal on their reputation in the world. This fear is amplified by the fact that he has a young daughter waiting for him in Brussels.
Likewise, Giorgi mentions deplorable detention conditions in the Saint-Gilles prison, describing them as "inhuman". He describes an environment where the rights of detainees are violated, with a lack of respect for human dignity.
