Morocco Halts Asylum Seeker Returns Amid Qatargate Corruption Scandal

Since the outbreak of the corruption scandal known as "Qatargate", the difficulties in returning Moroccans rejected from their asylum application to their country of origin have increased.
According to the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Nicole de Moor (Belgium), in a response to a parliamentary question, Morocco no longer respects the agreements since the outbreak of this affair.
The Qatargate scandal would have revealed the involvement of Morocco, which it categorically denies, describing the investigation as "continuous media and judicial harassment". The Kingdom would have initiated the corrupt practices involving Qatar by using various means to influence events, including favors, trips, "gifts" and the surveillance of European personalities.
Similarly, with its diaspora present in Belgium, it is accused of having managed to maintain influence and control over several aspects, despite its shortcomings in terms of respect for human rights.
