Purchasing power: Moroccans under pressure

Moroccans can no longer stand the continuous rise in the prices of basic necessities. Inflation has intensified over the past three months, causing major concerns.
According to a recent survey conducted by the "Sunergia" institute, specialized in market studies, 83% of respondents expressed concerns about the rise in prices of food and basic necessities over the past three months. While 9% of respondents believe that prices have remained stable, a minority (2%) note a drop in prices of certain products over the same period.
This continuous rise in prices is significantly affecting the purchasing power of Moroccan households, the survey reveals. According to the people surveyed, the products most affected are red meats, both fresh and frozen. The increase in the prices of this product would be explained by the rise in transport costs and the increase in the prices of animal feed. The respondents hope for a rapid stabilization of prices.
To curb the crisis, the government claims to be taking measures to regulate the markets. These include subsidizing certain basic necessities and strengthening the monitoring of supply chains. For some observers, it will be difficult to control prices, as the rise in world commodity prices is reflected in prices at the national level.
