Psychologist Analyzes ’Tramdena’: Morocco’s Growing Ramadan Behavior Phenomenon

"Tramdena", a Ramadan phenomenon in Morocco is gaining momentum every year. Psychologist Reda Mhasni decodes the causes.
During his appearance on the weekly program "Simana Fsaa" on Radio 2M, Reda Mhasni explained that "what we call ’Tramdinh’ or ’Tramdena’ is a theory created by Moroccan society to explain a group of reprehensible behaviors that a fasting person performs during the month of Ramadan and that the one who develops such behavior is called ’Mremden’".
According to him, the change in time and space is at the origin of this phenomenon. "The month of Ramadan is a change in time and space, especially with the return of Morocco about a week before this holy month to GMT time and the change in working hours during this month," he further explained. Another major factor: the modification of sleep hours, which causes sleep disturbance. The specialist emphasized the great importance of sleep in mental and cognitive faculties, particularly those related to voluntary attention and memory. According to his explanations, sleep disturbances lead to disturbances.
Reda Mhasni will add that the fasting person suffers during the month of Ramadan from problems related to nutrition, in addition to the suffering of a drug addict or smoker from behavioral disorders, although the World Health Organization (WHO) considers tea and coffee to be addictive as well. "The absence of these substances in the organism of the fasting person leads him to enter into a hormonal, physiological and behavioral crisis," he affirmed.
In addition, "hypoglycemia lowers the tolerance threshold of the fasting person in affairs and behaviors that are indifferent to him throughout the year," added Reda Mhasni, however nuancing that fasting during Ramadan is a hormonal experience that varies from one person to another.
