PSG’s Achraf Hakimi Struggles to Adapt as Tactics Shift

After a promising start at Paris Saint-Germain, Achraf Hakimi has been showing an increasingly less attractive face in recent weeks. The new game system imposed by the coach could be the cause.
The Moroccan international is no longer the whirlwind full-back snatched from Inter at a high price last summer. Certainly, he has shown what he is capable of during the first two months of the season, justifying all his potential to propel any team forward.
But since the arrival of new players, notably Lionel Messi, and the change in the coach’s tactics, Hakimi has been struggling to justify his title of "best right-back in the world".
According to observers, the new defensive system with four, instead of three previously, would be the cause. With four defenders, Achraf plays much further from the box. He always has a winger in front of him who blocks his runs.
Absent therefore in attack and presenting difficulties in defense, the Moroccan international is making the press talk. For many sports analysts, the Moroccan right-back is struggling to regain all the influence he had in the Parisian game.
