US Provides $670,000 to Morocco’s COVID-19 Fund, Boosting Pandemic Response

The US government has just announced that it has released the sum of 6.6 million dirhams for the special COVID-19 fund created by King Mohammed VI.
To support efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Morocco, the United States government has mobilized 6.6 million dirhams ($670,000) from the Infectious Disease Rapid Response Reserve Fund of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
According to the US Ambassador to Morocco, David T. Fischer, his country is collaborating with long-standing partners like Morocco to improve the global capacity to contain epidemics at their source and minimize their impact. In his view, these investments - and the US-Moroccan partnership - are essential to prepare quickly and effectively for emerging threats, including the current COVID-19 epidemic.
According to the American diplomat, US support will help Morocco and other partner countries prepare their laboratories to conduct large-scale COVID-19 testing, implement a public health emergency plan for entry points, activate event-based case detection and epidemiological surveillance for influenza-like viruses.
It will also be used to strengthen the capacities of rapid response teams, investigate cases and trace the contacts of infected persons, as well as to adapt COVID-19 training materials for the benefit of health workers.
