Protests Erupt in Marrakech Over Ramadan Curfew and Prayer Restrictions

Many Moroccans demonstrated last Monday in Marrakech to protest against the curfew and the ban on Tarawih prayers. The police arrested about ten people.
Social unrest continues to gain ground. After Tanger, Fez, Inezgane, Salé and Sidi Bennour, it is Marrakech’s turn to be affected. Demonstrations broke out in several neighborhoods of the ochre city last Monday. In Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, about fifty people were outside during the curfew to perform the Tarawih prayers, reports kech24. The crowd was dispersed by the security forces. About ten people were also arrested. Many of them are minors.
In Douar El Koudia, a street demonstration against the decision regarding the ban on night travel and Tarawih prayers during the month of Ramadan was also organized by about ten people. The security forces proceeded to arrest six young people.
