Prominent Moroccan Journalist and Press Freedom Advocate Khalid Jamaï Dies at 77

The Moroccan press is in mourning. Khalid Jamaï, the former editor-in-chief of the newspaper l’Opinion, passed away at his home in Rabat on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, after a long illness. The news of his death was announced by his entourage.
A prominent figure in the Moroccan press, Jamaï was known for his outspokenness and his strong opinions, especially in politics. Born in 1944 in Fez, he started his career as a journalist and columnist with a brief stint at the Ministry of Culture before joining the daily newspaper l’Opinion, where he worked for several decades. He was the role model and mentor for an entire generation of Moroccan journalists.
The late Khalid Jamaï, a former activist of the Istiqlal party, worked for several media outlets and is the author of numerous publications.
