Private Schools in Morocco to Halve Tuition Fees Amid COVID-19 Pressure

Parents of students will not pay the full tuition fees due for the 3rd quarter. This is the promise made by the Minister of National Education, Saïd Amzazi, following a meeting with the National Federation of Parents’ Associations.
50% reduction in tuition fees for the third quarter of 2020. This is the decision taken by the Minister of Education. He decided to convince his colleague from Finance Mohamed Benchaâboun, so that private school owners can benefit from the Special Fund as part of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
This decision by the minister follows the pressure from parents, especially on social networks, against maintaining 100% of tuition fees despite the financial difficulties caused by the crisis.
The daily Assabah notes that it will also be a matter of providing assistance to private sector employees affected by the repercussions of the pandemic, including educators, drivers and cooks.
Parents also seized this opportunity to demand an acceleration in the implementation of the articles concerning the rights and obligations of the framework law on education, the same source said.
In addition, the directors of the Regional Academies of Education and Training (Aref) and the directors of the provincial directorates of the ministry have been appointed to oversee the negotiations between the various players in the private education sector, the newspaper adds.
